We all need to help with climate change, everything that we do, in some way or another creates a Carbon Footprint, Computing and IT included, here at Planet Green IT, our goal is to make our customers computing and IT as a minimum Carbon Neutral, in a lot of instances Carbon Negative.
We only have one planet, let’s do what we can to save it! There is no Planet B.
Green Planet IT offset the carbon generated during the manufacture of Computers and Laptops by planting trees, that will absorb what has already been generated, but also for the electricity used running the computer or laptop. How do we do this? We have manufacurer detail on how much carbon was generated during production, and we measure how much electricity is used per hour by the computer.
We work with a number of partners who plant trees on our behalf, but we also work with a local organisation so customers near us can visit and see what we have been doing.
Did you know that a new computer can generate up to 350Kg of Carbon during the manufacturing process? Whereas a renewed computer generates less than 75Kg. Green Planet IT offers both new and renewed computers, renewed computers have been cosmetically refreshed and all components have undergone rigorous testing, they are supplied with a test report confirming they have passed all testing. Renewed computers are supplied with a one year warranty, which is upgradeable to 3 years.
All renewed computers sold by Green Planet IT, started life as a high end Enterprise model, which means they are the flagship model from the manufacturer which features outstanding build quality.
For renewed computers we offset the renew process CO2 output with 1 Mango tree, which offsets 0.3t of CO2 during its lifespan.
In real terms, that means 1 renewed Laptop generates 0.075t CO2 during manufacture is offset by 4 times, for the manufacture element on its own. A laptop uses between 20 and 50w of power per 8 hours, which means when you convert this to CO2, it is under 0.05t CO2 per annum.
This means if you replace your laptop every 4 years, you would be Carbon Negative for this device.
